Year summary

2026

The Scrips are an East Texas four-piece built around clawhammer banjo, fiddle, guitar, upright bass, and close harmonies. In 2026, old-time tunes, hymns, and original songs carried the band through Edom Art Walk, Make Music Day Tyler, The Forge, a KETK Hometown Harmonies session, and a visit to Unordinary People Podcast. An outdoor recording of “June Apple” brought that same acoustic sound to the screen.

The Scrips stretched from Deep Ellum and The Foundry to True Vine, Illusions & Bluegrass, and Hoptoberfest. Gabe Clayton brought hammered dulcimer into the lineup, while live-streamed rehearsals and one-microphone experiments with a vintage Nagra III pushed the band’s lo-fi instincts further.

Year summary

2013

By 2013 The Scrips had become a working East Texas concern: radio on the Terry Miller Morning Show, a Dallas opening date with Pokey LaFarge, repeat visits to The Forge, Stanley’s, and the July 4 orbit. The posters called the sound Sparse Mountain Folk, a phrase that fit the songs and the weather around them.

The first hard trail begins with a July 4 appearance, a place among twenty-four bands at Shiner Rising Star, and a run through Edom and KE Bushman’s. That fall The Scrips recorded five songs completely live in a small chapel near Flint and released Chapel Sessions on October 15, leaving both a show record and a lasting first document.
